WIBO tips on saving electricity – good advice, low heating costs

Demand a lower rate

produktdummy1

Would you like to remain loyal to your electricity provider and not change? No problem, it is completely legitimate to remain a loyal customer to your supplier, if trust has been built up over many years.

Some people do not even want to change a longstanding supplier for savings of EUR 50, 70 or 100 per year. Nevertheless, get in touch with your electricity supplier and demand a lower rate!

You are entitled to the most favourable electricity rate. Your longstanding supplier would prefer to put you into a more favourable group than lose you entirely as a customer. Try it. You will be surprised how the rates differ for the same quantity of electricity with the same supplier.

Change your electricity rate

Changing rates is the trend. Electricity costs are becoming an important subject for more and more consumers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

According to the German Association for the Electricity Industry (VDEW), around 47 percent of households changed their electricity rate by the middle of 2007. A distinct rise in changers compared to 2006.

However, according to VDEW, only around ten percent of the households actually also changed their electricity supplier, while the others remained with their old supplier and only changed their rate.

Your best/fitting electricity rate:

The price for household electricity is made up of a fixed monthly standing charge and the price per kilowatt hour (kWh). The right combination is important!

If you use a comparably high amount of electricity (use of electricity for heating or families), a lower rate per kilowatt hours is worthwhile, but the fixed standing charge can be slightly higher (for 3,000 kWh and more annual consumption). With low consumption (single households), the lower standing charge is worthwhile with, relatively higher prices per kilowatt hour.

You have an awareness of the environment when heating?

With electricity from alternative energies (solar, wind, water, ...) you can make your contribution to maintaining a clean environment. With a change of supplier, you can reduce your electricity-based CO2 emissions by two-thirds and more.
